Friends, it is said that a literary book of one hundred pages contains at least one hundred thousand words; naturally, books with double or triple that page count hold two hundred thousand or three hundred thousand words! This thought crossed my mind again today while I was cleaning my bookshelf—taking out every book and dusting off the accumulated grime and dirt. You should know that I have read every single book on my shelf; essentially, once I finish reading a book, I place it there. My modest bookshelf now holds a collection of just over 350 books. Calculating at a rate of one hundred thousand words per book, that amounts to roughly 35 million words—all of which I have read! And considering there are about fifty additional books ranging from 200 to 400 pages, just imagine the vast number of extra words I have absorbed! After reading so many words, it is safe to assume that a substantial vocabulary has been built within my mind—evident in the way I fluently express my thoughts through writing.
To editors of periodicals and enthusiasts who prefer the short posts common on social media platforms like Facebook, my writings often seem quite lengthy. Yet, from my perspective, I often feel as though I haven't even managed to write half of what I intended to convey! Even when I write 500 words, it feels as if I have penned only 200. The reason for this is that I have read all those 350+ books on my shelf and have effectively 'installed' a vast vocabulary in my mind—a feat that happened naturally, by the grace of Goddess Saraswati. I do not have to struggle to find words when I write—a point I wish to clarify by quoting the great Indian writer 'Agyeya'. He used to say that when he sat down to write, he would pen the first line himself, but the subsequent lines would essentially write themselves, driven by the momentum of that opening line. This was possible for Agyeya because he possessed an immense knowledge of literature, coupled with deep, personal contemplation.
Without writing any further, I am sharing a photograph of my bookshelf, which houses works by renowned authors writing in Hindi, Rajasthani, and English. The collection spans literature, art, history, philosophy, spirituality, Sanatan Dharma, and other faiths, alongside biographies and sketches of great figures. It also includes monthly and quarterly magazines from the Sahitya Akademi in Hindi and Rajasthani, as well as catalogues featuring painters, sculptors, and photographers from India and abroad.
I hardly realized when these books transformed me from a painter into a writer. Now, this writing journey is in full swing and shows no signs of stopping. My writing even caused a friend to leave my B.K. School classmates' WhatsApp group, complaining that I posted too many messages. We live in times where people are becoming estranged simply to avoid reading written content; it raises a significant question for anyone writing on social media—especially regarding literary work—about what one should actually do. There are many such questions, but I will save them for another time. For now, please take a look at the photograph of my bookshelf, captured by my camera and presented here for your viewing.

मित्रों कहते है एक सो पृष्ठ की साहित्यिक पुस्तक में कम से कम एक लाख शब्द होते है ! और जिन किताबों में पृष्ठ संख्या दुगनी और तिगुनी हो तो दो लाख और तीन लाख ! ये बात मुझे आज फिर याद आयी जब मैंने मेरे घर में पुस्तकों केबुक सेल्फ की सफाई करते हुए सभी किताबों को बहार निकला उनके ऊपर से रंजी / मिटटी / डस्ट को झाड़ा तब ! आप को विदित हो मेरे बुक सेल्फ की मैंने सभी पुस्तकें पढ़ राखी है आप ऐसा भी समझे की कोई पुस्तक पढ़ लेता हूँ फिर उसे मेरे बुक सेल्फ में रख देता हूँ ! मेरे छोटे से बुक सेल्फ में तक़रीबन 350 से कुछ अधिक पुस्तकों का संग्रह हो चूका है !अब एक पुस्तक में एक लाख शब्द के हिसाब से तीन सौ पच्चास पुस्तकों के कितने शब्द हुए शायद 35 000 ,000 तीन करोड़ पच्चास लाख शब्द, जिनको को मैं पढ़ चूका हूँ ! वैसे कुछ किताबें 200 से 400 पृष्ठ की भी है जिनकी संख्या पच्चास के आस पास होगी तो सोचिये कितने और शब्द अतिरिक्त मैं पढ़ चूका हूँ ! अब इतने शब्द पढ़ने के बाद आप ये मान के चलो की मेरे मस्तिष्क में भी एक अच्छा खासा शब्द कोष बन गया है ! जिसका सीधा प्रमाण मेरा धारा प्रवाह अपने अंदाज में अपने विचार को अभिव्यक्त करना है ! शब्द लेखन से !
पत्र पत्रिकाओं वाले सम्पादकों और फेसबुक जैसे सोशल मीडिया पर शार्ट पोस्ट में रूचि रखने वाले चहेतों के लिए मेरी लिखी पोस्ट उन्हें बहुत विस्तृत लगती है ! जबकि मेरी स्थिति लिखते समय ये होती है मानो जितना लिखना था उस से आधा भी नही लिख पाया हूँ ! मुझे मेरे लिखे 500 शब्द भी मानो ऐसे लगते है की अभी तो 200 शब्द ही लिखे है और इसका कारण ये है की मैं मेरे बुक सेल्फ में पड़ी वे सभी 350 से अधिक पुस्तकें पढ़ चूका हूँ और एक अच्छा खासा शब्दकोष अपने मस्तिष्क में इनस्टॉल / प्रिसंस्थापन कर चूका हूँ ! स्वतः ही हो गया है माँ सरस्वती की अनुकम्पा से !
लिखने के लिए मुझे शब्द खोजने नहीं पड़ते जिसे मैं यहाँ हमारे देश के महान लेखक "अज्ञेय " जी की बात को कोट करते हुए स्पष्ट करना चाहता हूँ ! अज्ञेय कहते है की जब मैं लिखने बैठता हूँ तो पहली पंक्ति मैं खुद लिखता हूँ और उसके बाद की पंक्तियाँ वो पहली वाली पंक्ति खुद बा खुद मुझसे लिखवा लेती है ! ऐसा इस लिए संभव होता था अज्ञेय जी के साथ क्योंकि उन्होंने साहित्य का अथाह अध्ययन किया हुआ था और उसके बाद मनन भी मन के मुताबिक !
अब अधिक न लिखते हुए सीधे आप को मेरे बुक सेल्फ में रखी किताबों की एक छाया चित्र साझा कर रहा हूँ जिसमे देश के प्रख्यात लेखक हिंदी/ राजस्थानी / अंग्रेजी भाषा के शामिल है और उनकी लिखी पुस्तकें साहित्य , कला , इतिहास के साथ दर्शन, अध्यात्म , सनातन के साथ अन्य धर्मों की भी और कई महापुरुषों की जीवनियाँ तथा रेखा चित्र भी है साथ ही साहित्य अकादेमी की हिंदी और राजस्थानी भाषा की मासिक / त्रेमासिक पत्रिकाएं भी ! तो देश और विदेश के चित्रकारों / मूर्तिकारों / फोटोग्राफर के केटलॉग भी !
इन पुस्तकों ने मुझे चित्रकार के साथ शब्दकार कब बना दिया मुझे पता ही नहीं चला ! और अब ये लिखने का शिलशिला चल पड़ा है जो रुकने का नाम ही नहीं ले रहा है ! इस लिखने की वजह से मेरी बी.के स्कूल के सहपाठियों के व्हाट्सप्प ग्रुप से एक मित्र लेफ्ट भी हो गया ये कहते हुए की योगेंद्र थूं बहुत मैसेज लिखता है ! अब समय तो ये है की लिखे हुए को पढ़ने से बचने के लिए भी मित्र अमित्र हुवे जा रहे है, सोशल मीडिया पर कोई लिखने वाला करे तो करे क्या साहित्य लेखन के सन्दर्भ में ये एक बड़ा प्रश्न है ! वैसे प्रश्न बहुत है लेकिन फिर कभी , अभी आप अब देखिये मेरे बुक सेल्फ की एक छाया चित्र मेरे कैमरा से आप के अवलोकन हेतु यहाँ प्रस्तुत है !
